A lit gift box does something a wrapped one cannot: it works after dark. Set a pair at the base of the tree and the floor stops being a shadow at six in the evening.
The finish is the part worth looking at closely. The mesh is not a printed pattern or a moulded panel but hundreds of fine iron wires wound into a dense random web, then coated in champagne gold sparkle.
From across the room it reads as a solid metallic block. From a metre away you can see straight through it to the lights inside.
Two sizes rather than one, because a matched pair sits better than a single box on its own.
Both run on batteries, which is the practical difference between a decoration you put where it looks right and one you put where the power point happens to be.
